Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon on Monday, May 9, 2022, at St. Andrew AME Zion Church.  Burial will follow in Calvary Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation is from 6-8:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Hortense Moss , daughter of the late James Reynolds and Lizzie Person was born on November 20, 1927, in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Heaven received another flower for God's garden on Monday, May 2, 2022.  Hortense passed while in her place of residence.  Hortense grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina and attended schools in New Hanover County.  She worked for Corbett Packing Company and was later employed by the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Hortense was a mother of four and kept busy working, raising her children and tending to her home.  She enjoyed serving others and volunteering throughout her community. She also was a servant for the Lord, through His Church.  She was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church in downtown Wilmington; later joining St. Andrew AME Zion Church in Wilmington, North Carolina.  In addition to her parents, Hortense was also preceded in death by her sister, Evelina Martin and brothers, Joseph Spears, Alan Reynolds and Elijah Spears.  Cherishing her memory, Hortense Moss leaves behind four beautiful children: one daughter, Mattie Bowen (husband, Johnnie)  and  three sons, Charles Moss (wife, Kim),  Marvin Moss(wife, Janet) and Robert Moss.  She held a special place in her heart for her nine grandchildren:  Charles Moss, Jr., Sedric Scott (wife, Tonia),  Shaunte Middleton, LaCresha Slappy, Marvina Moss (husband, John Roland), Jamal Moss (wife, Shivonne), Twila Roger, Ciara Moss and Y'tia Steele (husband, Leroy).  Hortense was also blessed with twenty-five great- grandchildren.
