Funeral service will be held Friday, July 15, 2022, at 12:00 Noon at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church; 719 Walnut Street. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday at Shiloh. Geraldine McLaurin Smith , daughter of the late Evelena Davis McLaurin and William B. McLaurin was born April 16, 1939. She departed this earthly life on July 7, 2022. Geraldine was educated in the New Hanover County School System, graduating from Williston Industrial School. She obtained her nursing degree and was an LPN at James Walker Memorial Hospital and later New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Geraldine accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She was very active at Shiloh serving as the secretary of the church, working with BTU, singing on the Jr. Choir and numerous other committees. Geraldine was a member of the W.H. Moore Foreign Missionary Society and the Irene Maides Missionary Circle for whom she held meetings in her home. She also sponsored trips to Canada. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by her brothers, William McLaurin, Robert McLaurin and Donald McLaurin. Geraldine leaves to cherish fond memories: her sons, Johnnie Laval Smith and Vernon Pierre Smith; four grandchildren, Crystal Gagum, Manisha Smith, Chelsee Bellamy and Sidney Smith-Hall; four great-grandchildren, Destiny Smith, Carter McCary, Major Whitehead and Maddison Whitehead; her siblings, Alonza McLaurin, Thomas McLaurin, Sara Bragg, Kenneth McLaurin, Evelena McLaurin and Gloria M. Kinsey; a very loving and devoted friend, Lawrence "Jack" Jackson and his son, Wanzella Jackson; god children, Tangie Jones and Joey Gibbs; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including, several very close friends, Pauline Bloodworth, Marlene DeVane, Betty Green, Barbara Smith Johnson, Dorothy King and Dorothy McLaurin.
