Funeral service is 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at St. John AME Church, Wrightsboro Community. Burial will follow in the Moore's Cemetery. Visitation is at 4:00 PM. Brother George Nelson Williams, affectionately known as "Uncle Pa" "was born February 18, 1941, in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late Sarah Louise Williams and the late Robert Williams, Sr. He departed this life on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the age of 83. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Annie Bell Williams. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Robert Williams Jr., and James Williams, Pembroke Williams, and his sisters, Celia Grady, Verna Miller, Iola Maye Brown, Willie Delores Williams, and Mary Catherine (Kitty) Fulton. George loved church, baseball, the beach, and watching Westerns. After graduating from Williston Senior High School in 1959, he joined the United States Marine Corps shortly after. Following leaving the Corp, he married the love of his life, Annie Bell Hooks, on March 6, 1965, they resided In Elizabeth, New Jersey until moving back to his hometown in 1972. He rejoined his childhood church, St. John AME in the Whitesboro community (aka Tin Pan). He was a dedicated church member serving as a steward, youth, and adult Sunday school teacher, the church Superintendent, and a proud member of the LAY organization for many years. George attended Cape Fear Community College in the late 70s to earn a machinist certificate. He worked for CP&L (Progress Energy) until 1983 when he fell ill. He worked relentlessly throughout his life to recover from his sickness. Though being diagnosed with cancer in the late 1990s, he helped to raise his young grandchildren. George was determined to live his best life with God in his heart always. He will be dearly, dearly missed by his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children; Tawana Denise Williams, George Kenneth Williams, Cheryl Ann Williams (all of Wilmington, NC), and Leonard Nelson Williams (Henderson, NC). He has one surviving sister, Esther J. Scott (Wilmington, NC), sister in-law Louise Williams (Wilmington, NC), sister in-law Evelyn Rolon (Rahway, NJ); two brothers in-laws, Michael Hooks, and Terry Hooks (both of Erie, PA). His four grandchildren, Hayden Nelson Williams, Chloe Xiamara Williams, Jasonna La Priest Williams, and Breanna Monique Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
