Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

George Franklin Syles , son of the late Richard and Myrtle Syles was born March 9, 1948, in Wilmington, North Carolina. He went to be with the Lord in his forever home on August 11, 2022.  He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. As a young man he attended St. Phillips AME Church and First Baptist Church in Wilmington, North Carolina. Later in life he became a faithful and devoted member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, usher, a member of the men's choir, finance committee and Band of Brothers.  George was very active with the missionary ministry. He was a two-time cancer survivor and an active member of the RV Cancer Support Group.  George graduated from Williston Senior High School in 1966. After graduation he moved to Brooklyn, New York where he attended Lincoln Computer School and then went on to work in the banking industry. A few years later he returned to his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina.  On October 18, 2000, George married the love of his life, Dorothy. They enjoyed quality time traveling and everyone knew he was a die-hard Steelers fan. He retired from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington as a warehouse manager on January 1, 2012, after 22 years of service.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Chrystabel Syles and brother, Richard Syles, Jr.  He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Dorothy Syles; daughter, Kaeren Mitchell; son, Andre Scott (Kirby); granddaughters, Parris Mitchell, Kyra Scott and Kali Scott; great-granddaughter, Kennedi Mitchell; sisters, Celestine Buie and Bertha Syles; brother, Richard Syles; sisters-in-law, Vinnie Syles and Wanda Anderson (Dennis); brothers-in-law, Darryl Felder, Howard Lowe and Yonas Lowe; other relatives and friends.
