Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at St Phillip AME Church.  Burial will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery.  Visitation is from 5:30 to8:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.

Fumika Nicole Barnhill was born January 26, 1985 to Curtis and Betty Barnhill in Okinawa, Japan. She departed this life on Marh 31, 2024. Fumika attended several schools during her early education due to her father's Marine Corps Career. She completed her high school years and graduated from E. A. Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. Furmika received her Bachelor Degree in Early Education from UNC Wilmington. She went on to receive her Masters Degree in Early Education from Grand Canyon University. Fumika confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Phillip AME Church. She married Isaiah Thomas on March 26, 2011. From that marriage they bore three children, McKenzie, Madison, and Maddox. Fumika taught elementary education for 17 years, the majority of which was taught at Murrayville Elementary School. She loved her work and her students, trying to make sure they knew the importance of learning and staying focused on education early in life. Fumika loved being with her family and friends, traveling and she really enjoyed the beach. Fumika leaves to cherish fond memories: her children, McKenzie, Madison and Maddox; her parents, Curtis and Betty Barnhill of Wilmington, NC; a sister, Latia Burnett (Lavodrick) of Petersburg, VA; a bonus sister, Shandia Roberts of Philadelphia, PA; sisters-in-law, Shamone Thomas and Eudasia Thomas both of Wilmington, NC; six nephews; three nieces; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, friends and co-workers.
