Obituary

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at the Willie L. Shaw Jr. Memorial Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Skipper Hill Cemetery, Northwest.  Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday.

On March 31, 2022, in Greensboro, North Carolina, Frances Lee Melvin Wilson departed this earthly life to be with her angels in the heavens above. Frances was born to the late John E. Melvin and Lela Mae Kelly Jenkins. She was born on July 27, 1942, in the Phoenix Community located in Leland, North Carolina.  Frances was preceded in death by her infant son, Larry E. Wilson, Jr., and her husband, Larry E. Wilson.  Frances was educated in the public schools of Brunswick County, North Carolina where she was a graduate of the Class of 1962 from Lincoln High School. After graduating high school, she left Brunswick County, and obtained her Cosmetology License in Durham, North Carolina.  Frances moved to Connecticut in the 1960s, where she met and married the late Larry Wilson in 1965.  Three children were born in this union, Sharon Wilson, the late Larry Wilson, Jr., and Shawn Wilson.  She was gainfully employed for many years of her life. She worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Bridgeport and Naugatuck Public School Systems in Connecticut. Frances and her family relocated to North Carolina where she and her husband became the sole proprietors of their beauty and barbershop, La-Frans Barber, and Beauty Salon.  Before retiring.  Frances became a Certified Nursing Assistant and a volunteer literacy coach for the Brunswick County Community.  Frances loved the Lord.  She was a faithful member of several churches and a very active member serving in many capacities. Upon moving back to Leland, North Carolina, she joined Crystal Spring Missionary Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Choir, Missionary Society, and the Usher Board.  Frances leaves to cherish her memories: a daughter, Sharon Wilson of Greensboro, North Carolina: one son, Shawn Wilson of Mebane, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Shai-Kwon Wilson Wade and Jordan Hunter of Greensboro, NC; one great-granddaughter, Janiyah Hunter; two brothers, John Melvin and Richard Melvin of Leland, NC; two aunts;  Fannie Kelly Wilson of Burlington, NC, Emma Kelly of Pacolet, South Carolina; two uncles, Freddie Kelly of Burgaw, NC, John Thomas, Sr., of Bridgeport, CT; one niece, Dorothy Wilson; one grandniece, Selena Hudson; one grandnephew, Brandon Jones; other relatives and friends.
