Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Myrtle Grove AME Church, Leland, NC.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.  Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.

Fontella U'Tanya Moore-Butler, the daughter of Carolyn Bowden and granddaughter of Elois Robbins, was born December 11, 1974, and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 23, 2025.  At an early age, she joined Myrtle Grove AME Church.  She attended Sunday School, sang on the Junior Choir and participated in many church activities. Fontella enjoyed church. Fontella attended school in Brunswick County and graduated from Brunswick Community College in 1994. She worked at Elderhaus PACE as a Driver and Medtech until her health began to decline. "Tanya " as she was affectionately known to her family, was united into holy matrimony to Eric Butler— a partnership that has lasted for 28 years. Tanya was preceded in death by her brother Sharn Merrick. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her devoted husband, Eric Butler of the home. Tanya was a proud and loving mother to her daughters:  Rasheida Waddell of Wilmington, NC, Jalessa Waddell (Chris) of Clayton, NC; and Terika Brown of Georgia, her sons; Tevin (Tabitha) of Winnabow, NC, along with Eric and Brian of Wilmington, NC. She is survived by her dear sister, Claudia Simpson (Josecok), and her god-sister, Tanya Herd (Ronald), both of Wilmington, NC. Tanya's nurturing heart was shaped by her mother, Carolyn Bowden, and her grandmother, Elois Robbins both of Leland, NC. Her extended family includes loving aunts: Muriel Graham of Leland, NC, Beatrice Jackson of Newark, Delaware; and Janet Merrick of Lawrenceville, New Jersey.  She was also blessed with uncles Ronald and Donald Merrick of Leland, NC, and twelve grandchildren. She also shared deep bonds with special friends Kim Tyson, Gail Thomas, and Lantha Winley, along with a host of other family members and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
