"Well done, good and faithful servant..." – Matthew 25:23

With profound love, gratitude, and cherished memories, we celebrate the beautiful life of Evonne Elizabeth McGill, affectionately known by many as "EE."  On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and sustained by her unwavering faith, she peacefully departed this earthly life to enter into the eternal presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Evonne Elizabeth McIntyre was born on August 4, 1947, in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late Earl A. McIntyre and Mary Elizabeth McIntyre. From an early age, she exemplified kindness, determination, and a joyful spirit that would become the hallmark of her life. She received her early education in the New Hanover County School System and proudly graduated from Williston Senior High School on June 4, 1965. Continuing her pursuit of knowledge, Evonne furthered her education at Cape Fear Technical Institute and completed additional professional training through North Carolina State University, equipping herself for a distinguished career of service. As a young girl, Evonne faithfully attended St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church, where her love for Christ first blossomed. She joyfully sang in the church choir, assisted in caring for the church by helping with its upkeep, and shared her beautiful voice by singing gospel hymns with a local singing group on the radio. Her love for music never faded and remained an important part of who she was throughout her life. While attending Williston Senior High School, Evonne was a proud majorette for the marching band. She loved to sing, dance, and bring smiles to those around her. Her vibrant personality, graceful presence, and contagious joy made her unforgettable to everyone blessed to know her. On January 14, 1967, Evonne married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Paul G. McGill. Their marriage was a beautiful testimony of unwavering love, commitment, faith, and partnership for 59 wonderful years. Together they built a life centered on God and family while raising their two beloved daughters. Their journey together took them from Wilmington, North Carolina, next to New York City, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Washington, D.C., and ultimately back home to Wilmington, where they continued to enjoy life surrounded by loved ones. Evonne devoted more than thirty years of distinguished service to the Wilmington Police Department, where she earned the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout her career. Beginning in Police Records, advancing into supervisory leadership, and later serving in Property and Evidence, she carried out every responsibility with professionalism, integrity, and excellence. Her dedication to public service reflected her strong character and unwavering work ethic. Above all else, Evonne loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Her faith was the foundation upon which she built her life. While living in Washington, D.C., she became a devoted member of Central Missionary Baptist Church, faithfully serving and worshipping the Lord. Upon returning to Wilmington, North Carolina, she continued her Christian walk as a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained committed to serving God, supporting her church family, and encouraging others in their faith. Those who knew Evonne knew that she treasured life's simple blessings. She loved traveling, singing, dancing, fishing, crabbing, and collecting elephants—from ceramic figurines to beautiful artwork and keepsakes. She faithfully tuned in to her favorite television game shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, often enjoying them with family and friends. To know Evonne was to know a woman whose heart overflowed with love, compassion, wisdom, and encouragement. She lived each day with grace and purpose, placing Jesus Christ first, her family second, and her church community third. She often reminded those she loved with one of her favorite sayings: "I'm telling you what God loves—and that's the truth!" She also lived by a simple yet meaningful motto: "Live, Love, and Laugh." These words beautifully reflected the life she lived and the legacy she leaves behind. Evonne leaves to cherish her precious memory and continue her legacy of faith, dignity, integrity, and unconditional love: her devoted husband of 59 years, Paul G. McGill of the home; her loving daughters, Stephanie McGill-Waldon of Greensboro, North Carolina and Sonya Mitchell (Dr. Kamari Mitchell) of Waxhaw, North Carolina; her grandchildren she cherished very much: Symara of Greensboro, North Carolina, Synia of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Victoria, Kaiden, and Camille all of Waxhaw, North Carolina; and her treasured great-granddaughter, Sienna of Greensboro, North Carolina; She is also survived by her beloved sister, Claudia M. Jordan (Eugene) of Wilmington, North Carolina; her dear cousin, Theodore B. Butler of Washington, D.C.; a host of loving nephews, nieces, extended family members, treasured friends, and all whose lives were enriched by her love and kindness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl A. McIntyre and Mary Elizabeth McIntyre; her brothers, Rev. Earl R. Cheek (Cindory), Ernest A. McIntyre Sr. (Catherine) and Donald R. McIntyre (Debbie) and her sister, Carol M. Givan (John). Although our hearts grieve her earthly absence, we rejoice knowing that Evonne has received the ultimate reward promised to those who faithfully trust in Christ. Her life was a shining example of faith, perseverance, service, and unconditional love. Her gentle spirit, beautiful smile, joyful laughter, and steadfast devotion to God and family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
