Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Central Baptist Church; 702 Red Cross Street. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is from 5:30 - 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, the Angel of Silence descended upon Wilmington, North Carolina on Mercer Avenue with tenderness and compassion, and closed the eyes that had seen a brighter vision, folded the hands that had labored for God and mankind, stopped the feet that made many steps, and sealed the lips that glorified and called upon the Name of Jesus! Eva Teachers Williams was born into a loving family on the 12 th day of November 1928 in Rocky Point, North Carolina. She received her formal education from Pender County Training School and her Teaching Degree from Fayetteville State Teachers College. She began her teaching career in Wilson County before moving to New Hanover County Board of Education. She taught at Gregory, Tileston, and Bradley Creek Elementary Schools. In the Year of 1985 an article was published in the Star-News relating to her outstanding and unique teaching skills. After 38 years of teaching, she retired in Year 1989 from Bradley Creek Elementary School. Eva accepted Jesus Christ as her Personal Savior at the Friendship Baptist Church, Rocky Point, North Carolina at an early age. Later, she united with Central Baptist Church where she served faithfully many years until her health failed. Eva organized the Original H. V. Gattison Choir in 1966. She was a member of the Mother's Club, Deaconess Board, served as Chairman of the Trustee Board, and was recognized as Mother of the Year in 1988 by her Church Family at Central Baptist. She served on the Centennial Anniversary Committee, spearheaded numerous programs at Central Baptist, to name a few: The Spring Tea, Vacation Bible School, Church Parsonage, Sanctuary, and Kitchen Renovations. She was a member of North Carolina Association of Educators, North Carolina Retired Teachers of the Cape Fear Area, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated where she was instrumental in facilitating the Clothes Closet Program. Awards received: 2006 Woman of Distinction - Wilmington Chapter of Las Amigas Inc; 1992 Unsung Hero Senior Service Award - Elderhaus, Inc; 1989 Outstanding and Dedicated Service – Central Baptist Church; and 1977 Outstanding Volunteer Service – Oceanside Camp. Eva was united in Holy Matrimony in August 1953 to Carlyle Williams. One child was born into this union, Antoinette Remel Williams. Eva Williams was preceded in death by her husband Carlyle Williams in September 2019. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Annie Pearl Teachey, Emma Louise Williams, Wilhelmina McKoy, and Thomas Walsteen Teachey. She leaves to mourn her only child, who was a Loving Daughter and Devoted Caregiver, Antoinette "Toni" Williams of the home, sister, Doris T. Newkirk of Rocky Point, NC; stepsisters, Irene VanTravis of Rocky Point, NC, Ray and Janine Wilder of Charlotte, NC; brothers-in-law, Arthur Williams and Wilbur A. Williams (Saundra J) all of Bolivia, NC; one sister-in-law, Odell Williams of Bolivia, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
