Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at St. Phillip AME Church.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.  Visitation is one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Ethel Bell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 1, 2024, at UNC Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. On April 7, 1954, he was born to the late Joe and Inez Bell in Hemingway, South Carolina. Ethel attended grade school in Leland, North Carolina and graduated from Cape Fear Community College in the year of 1983 with a certificate in machine trade. Ethel went on to be employed by General Electric, "GE", where he retired in 2014 after 32 years of dedicated service. Bell was a devoted member of St. Phillip AME Church. He served for over 45 years in various roles such as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees, a member of the Men's Choir and the Mass Choir. He was the Vice-Chair of the Commission on Stewardship & Finance, the Assistant Church School Superintendent and Church School Teacher, and he was also a member of the Sons of Allen. He was a dedicated Trustee and took outstanding care of the St. Phillip AME Church buildings. Bell loved working with the other Trustees on the Board and always sang their praises. Bro. Bell was also a dedicated District Church School Superintendent for the Southern District NC Conference AME Church. Bro. Ethel Bell was a caring person and actively served his church while sick up until his death. Ethel was known by many names. Some called him Rocket, Mr. B, Coach Bell, Poppa, Daddy, and BELL! If you knew BELL, you know that he loved his yearly trips with his buddies to the CIAA. Not only did he enjoy attending, Ethel was also an Advocate for the CIAA. He was always active and involved in any and everything including baseball, softball, coaching little league, power lifting, body building, and his favorite of them all, GOLFING! If you really knew Bell, then you know he loved him some golf!
