Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Summerville AME Zion Church, Leland, NC. Burial will follow in the Summerville AMEZ Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7:00 P.M. on Thursday at Summerville AME Zion Church. Essie Everett Bethel was born September 15, 1948, to the late Archie and Sadie Everett, she departed this life on Friday February 2, 2024. Essie was educated in the Brunswick County school system and was a graduate of the Lincoln High School Class of 1966. For 75 years Summerville AME Zion Church has always been home for her. Essie "Lucy', as she was affectionately known, enjoyed cooking, and helping whomever, whenever and however she could. Her specialty side was the hushpuppies that she perfected while working at Harold's Fish Camp. Lucy also loved working in the yard and most of all working for the upbuilding of the kingdom as a Deaconess, Senior Choir member, Usher, Missionary, and President of the Home Mission workers. Her greeting was always "Hey Boo" and at the end of every conversation she would always say "I love you". She was preceded in death by her parents Archie and Sadie Everett and her children Stephanie and Theophilus Everett and her grandson Andrew Everett. One sister Ella Ballard and four brothers Archie Everett Jr., Melvin Everett, Lawrence Everett, and James Everett. Surviving to cherish her memories, her husband Athelston Bethel and one grandson Antwan Everett (Laronda Ballard) of the home. Her granddaughters Breianna and Jasmine Everett, of Wilmington, NC, and the latest twinkle of her eye her great granddaughter Ah'Riyah Renee Everett of the home. Stepchildren Chandra Bethel of NJ, Sophie Bethel, of NC and Devain Saunders of the Bahamas; brother William Everett (Teresa); aunts Curlia Troy, of Leland, NC, Geraldine Fields, of Delco, NC, and Suretha Troy, of Baltimore, MD; uncles Robert Everett, of Navassa, NC and Camell Troy (Marilyn) of Leland, NC; sisters-in-law Albertina Everett, Sharon Everett, Paula McGregor, Ursula Chislom and one brother-in-law Hillary Bethel. A Host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
