On June 9, 2024, God dispatched one of His guardian angels to Trinity Grove Rehabilitation Center to transition Enoch "Shank" Hansley, Jr. to his eternal home. Shank was born on July 22, 1940, to the late Enoch Hansley, Sr. and the late Mildred Brown Hansley. Shank was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Willa Lennon Hansley. Shank was educated in the Pender County School System and graduated from the Pender County Training School in Rocky Point, North Carolina. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Christian Chapel Baptist Church #2 in Browntown, North Carolina. In May of 1979, Shank married the love of his life, Willa Lennon Hansley. Shank worked as a forklift operator in Downtown Wilmington and eventually became the smoothest truck driver for Dillard Paper Company/International Paper for over 30 years, retiring in the Fall of 2001. Shank and Willa were both avid sports fanatics and his favorite sport was baseball. He was well known from the communities of Browntown, Topsail, Woodside, Edgecombe and Wilmington for stretching out those long legs between first and second bases. Professional baseball scouts showed much interest in Shank to play professionally. Long before Love & Basketball, there was Love & Softball with Willa and Shank, playing in various leagues together for years. Shank was also known for frying the absolute best fish. You could count on him for the best hot fish for church functions, family gatherings, and special events. He was a pillar in the Browntown and Topsail communities and helped the elderly every chance he could. Shank was a devoted trustee and choir member at Christian Chapel Baptist Church #2 and was always a reliable servant in his church. Shank leaves to cherish his loving memories: 3 sons, Rodney Hansley, Michael Hansley and Romano Hansley; 4 daughters, Michelle Lennon Davis (Ernest Davis, Jr.), Renee Johnson, Angel Scott (Robyn Scott), and Lynette Hansley; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren; 6 sisters-in-law, Juanita Jackson, Brenda Joyce Hyde, Sadie Pamela Black, Margaret Ann Lennon, Thelma Lennon, and Rheba Lennon; 1 brother-in-law, Lawrence Lennon (Rena Lennon) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
