Our beloved Ella Mae Jenkins was born on Tuesday, May 17, 1938, in Bishopville, South Carolina.  Her loving parents were Cubit and Louise B. Joe.  She departed this life on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Ella Mae Jenkins was an active and faithful member of St. Phillip AME Church of Wilmington, North Carolina for many years until her health prevented her from attending. She was a loving, sweet, kind, caring, exceptional and remarkable mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.  She truly was the love of all our lives. She was married to her loving husband, John K. Jenkins, Sr. who preceded her in death.  The children born to this marriage were: Patricia A. Jenkins, John K. Jenkins, Jr., and Alfonza L. Jenkins. She was blessed with ten grandchildren, namely, Katrina, (Keith), Jonathan, LaTanya, Fatimah, Lamar, Alfonza Jr. (deceased), Tiffany, (Joe), Trevor, and Antonio; one step-grandson, Munyaradzi; nineteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Essie Waddell Clay and Lillie Mae Jenkins; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; two god children, Avery Bates and Lauren Galleher; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, husband, brothers and sisters, she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Alfonza L. Jenkins, Jr.  Her Service to Others: Ella Mae Jenkins was employed at Cornelia Nixon Davis Nursing Home in Wilmington, NC from August 21, 1981, until her retirement on December 31, 2009.  Her professional career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), defined her nurturing and caring spirit.  She assisted residents at the nursing home with daily routine living care and personal hygiene, ensuring their safety, well-being and comfort.  Her Funny Side:  I remember my mom asking one of the CNA's caring for her, "Do you know what you are doing, taking care of me?  You better not mess up.  I trained people like you. So, you better handle me with a whole lot of care honey!."
