Edith Harry was born by midwife to Ruth Thomas on November 10, 1930, in Lynchburg, South Carolina.  She was raised in Lynchburg by her loving Aunt Nancy and Uncle Boy (Sammy Lee Harry, Sr.).  Always putting family first, Edith left school in the 6th grade to help support the family by sharecropping.   She came to Wilmington as a young woman to join her mother with whom she shared a home and worked alongside at City Dixie Laundry.  Working at both City Dixie and Modern Laundry, she had a nearly 50-year career as a laundress and retired at the age of 75.   She was a dedicated daughter and after retirement, she lovingly cared for her mother "Grandma Ruth" with family until she went on to receive her heavenly rest. Edith raised three children - Bobby, Sandra and Ronald - who along with their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren were a source of pride and affection.  A member of Warner Temple for over 60 years, Edith faithfully served the church by ensuring that communion linens and the pastor's robe were professionally cleaned and pressed, and she folded the church bulletins each week for several years.  In her latter years, Ms. Edith still served by always having a ready hug and a "Hey Sugar" for her Warner family.  Edith was known for her loving kindness towards everyone she met.  With a warm smile and nurturing personality, she lifted those around her and enjoyed many warm kinship and friendship connections.  She especially enjoyed calls from Annie Ruth to discuss the latest on the "stories" (soap operas).  Her loving granddaughter was always available to minister to her needs and her calls and visits brought her grandmother special joy. Edith was lovingly cared for by her sons until she recently went to reside in California where her daughter, son in law and grandson enjoyed serving and bonding with her.  She went on to receive her heavenly reward on August 12, 2023.Edith Harry leaves to celebrate her life: Children: Robert "Bobby" Harry (Vicki-deceased), Sandra Thomas (James) and Ronald Harry and Special Daughter: Rene Harry; Grandchildren: Andrea Thomas, Tyrone Thomas (Demisha), Ronald Harry, Jr.; Siblings: Eloise Brown, Shirley Robinson, Clifton "Bobo" Thomas and Special Sister, Lillian Cole; Great-grandchildren (Thomas): Cianne, Saril, James, Janias, J'Kai, Amira, Sandrea and Jendayi. Great-grandchildren (Harry): Ai'Mirie, Myonna and Jahki.  In addition to these a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and nephews and friends have been touched by her grace. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Dorothy Mae (Mae Mae) Thomas, Prince (Sonny Boy) Thomas and Harry Lee Thomas.
