Boyd

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, June20, 2022, at Warner Temple AME Zion Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Edith Blanche Boyd , the daughter of late Gladys Frasier Carter (Willie Carter) was born in Walterboro, South Carolina on August 19, 1944. She departed this earthly life on June 13, 2022. Very early in life, her family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina where they were settled on the Northside. She received her education in the New Hanover County School System, graduating from Williston Senior High School, the greatest school under the sun, in the Class of 1964. Edith went to college and graduated from Durham School of Business. Edith returned to Wilmington, NC where she met Harold Boyd Sr. On June 24, 1967, the two were joined in holy matrimony. To this union two children were born, Angela Rene and Harold Jr. For more than 20 years, Edith was employed at Dr. Foster Gordon Dentistry as a dental assistant. It was there that Edith found her passion for working with elderly and children. She left the dentistry field and became a daycare supervisor at Shaw Speaks Center. She opened her own daycare center where she worked for over 20 years. Edith loved seniors as much as she loved children. This passion led her to volunteer to work with Meals on Wheels for many years. Edith was an avid church lady, joining the Warner Temple AME Zion Church early in the 1970's. She became an active supporter of every aspect of the Warner Temple Missionary. Edith enjoyed working with various organizations and activities including: the Usher Board, Stewardess Board, Deaconess Board, Parent Body Missionary, District Supply Secretary, Conference Workers, Class Leader #8, Conference Delegate to Annual and General Conference. Edith loved her pastors and supported them any way that she could; including babysitting every child that came along with her. Edith was a devoted Christian who demonstrated full proof of her commitment to God and to her family. Everyone knew how she felt about the Warner Temple AME Zion Church. Her unifying and unwavering efforts will never be forgotten. She traveled with the church extensively, and could always be counted on for good, sound, and dedicated support. Hence, she has left her footprints in the sand of time. She mentored young adults to become active in their church community. The doctors thought Edith would not survive the surgery because her heart was ailing, but it came back strong, and so did she. In 2015 Edith had her first surgery in Chapel Hill. A few months after the surgery she informed the doctors that she was headed to Florida for a Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society Conference with her best friend Ms. Tessie. The doctors were puzzled by her energy and determination to still have a high quality of life. Immediately after Ms. Boyd came home from the hospital, she put Angela on notice that they were about to take their road trip to Florida. Edith was the type of person that would show up when you needed her. You never left her house empty handed. Her best quality was keeping secrets, asking questions, and being encouraging, especially to parents of young children. She was passionate about creating a safe place for kids as she poured her heart and life children. Edith had strong convictions; however, you would never know it when she was not feeling well. Sometimes she was fisty and had no problem putting her immediate family and close friends in their rightful place. She has fought battles that showed her true strength, even in the midst illness. No matter how bad things seemed, she always prevailed. Her honesty was her greatest strength. She faced and conquered more than you could imagine but always kept her faith and spunk, which she kept to the very end. RIP WONDER WOMAN!!! She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Angela Brunson Boyd; four in-laws, Carrie (Larry) Hill, Fred W. Boyd, Eddie J. Boyd and Daisy Boyd and one nephew, Brian Frasier.
