Douglas was born on February 23, 1953, to Herbert Rober and the late Peggy J. Wilson. On Tuesday morning, October 14, 2025, God in His infinite wisdom, called him to his eternal home. Douglas' early childhood years were spent in Aynor and Bucksport, SC. It was there, he was raised by his grandmother, Eloise Brown. They later relocated to Wilmington, NC. After his 1974 graduation from Hoggard High School, Wilmington, NC, Douglas joined and honorably served four years in the United States Air Force. After returning from his duty, he was employed with the City of Wilmington in the Sanitation Department, from which he retired. Douglas was a member of Evergreen AME Zion Church and served faithfully on the Trustee and Usher Boards and the Male Chorus. Among his fondest passions, family life was a dear love for him. He enjoyed dining at restaurants with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching western movies. Before his health began to decline, bowling and playing pool were two of his recreation enjoyments. It was a delight for him to be outside washing and "working on" his truck.
