Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at St. Andrew AME Zion Church.  Burial will follow in Calvary Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation is on Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Dorothy Ellen Washington was born in Wilmington, NC where she attended New Hanover County Schools, and later pursued a career in teaching.  She then moved to Detroit, MI where she started her family with the late Earl Washington who proceeded her in death.  In addition, she was also proceeded in death by her mother, Leola Wilson; son, Earl Washington Jr.; and her sister Mary "Cookie" Scott.  Dorothy will live through her three sons, Denis Washington; Leonard Washington; Patrice Washington (Janice); and one daughter Shanita Washington.  In addition, she leaves to cherish her memories 12 grandchildren, Kevin Scott (Kimberly), Kareem Washington, Dorothy Washington, Paula Washington, Earl Washington Jr., Kyasia Paige, Keonah Paige, Kyshaad Paige, Darren Washington, Dymia Washington, Zymon Washington, a special grandson, Ronald Wilson "Rue", one sister, Willie Jean Bragg, a special cousin Nellie Mae, a special friend Betty Hines, and a host of nieces and nephews.  "Dot" was a great mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  To many she would say, "I'ma teach you something before I die."  What she didn't teach us was how to live without her.
