Mrs. Dorothy Moore Maxwell was born on March 4, 1945, to the late Walter Moore and Anna Shaw Moore in Leland, NC. Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt, departed this life on December 9, 2024. Dorothy was only 79 years of age. Dorothy received her high school education at Lincoln High School in Brunswick County, she went on and graduated from Troutman Beauty School of Wilmington. She was married to the late Joe L. Maxwell. During her career, Dorothy worked several jobs. She had fond memories of working at the Singer Climate Control Facility in Wilmington for over twenty years. Dorothy worked as a salesperson at Dillard's, a clerk at Roses and volunteered at Vintage Values on Castle Street. She was strong-willed and stubborn at times, but she also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. Dorothy was often referred to as a prayer warrior, known for her devoted Christian faith and countless acts of service. She enjoyed attending tent revivals, gospel quartet concerts and multiple church services each Sunday. Her love for gospel music and prayer brought joy to those around her. Dorothy was a hard worker and a resilient figure in the face of adversity. She had an unassuming and disarming smile that could put anyone at ease. Dorothy represented the good that we all need every day in our lives. She was well-known in her community for her selfless acts of kindness, always ready to help others, especially those who were sick, embodying the true essence of compassion and love. Dorothy was preceded in death by her son Ronald Moore; five brothers, Walter Moore, Gary Moore, Morris Moore, Marshall Moore and Freddie Shaw. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: one son, James Moore (Kimberly); two grandchildren, Melissa Moore and Savannah Moore; one sister, Mrs. Ella Clark; two brothers, Benjamin Shaw and Ronald Travis (Minnie); one uncle, Clayton Moore, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
