Dorothy Ann McKoy Hightower was born to Samuel E. McKoy and Hattie MacMillian McKoy on February 24, 1953.  She departed this life on February 28, 2024. Dorothy Ann graduated from New Hanover High School.  She attended Fayetteville State University and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Dorothy Ann was a life-long learner and was studying Spanish with her cherished great-grandnephew, Nolan Carpenter. During her 30-year career as a water plant operator, she earned the highest certification in water treatment.  Dorothy Ann was highly appreciated by her co-workers for being a diligent mentor. Dorothy Ann was preceded in death by her mother and father, Hattie and Samuel McKoy; mother-in-law, Anna Bell; father-in-law, Alton Hightower, Sr.; brothers, Earl Zimmerman. Samuel McCoy, Lester McKoy and Richard McKoy; sisters, Bertha Mae Bullock and Lorriane Mackey; daughter-in-law, Regina McKoy brothers-in-law, Alton Hightower, Jr., Larry Hightower and Issac Hightower; sisters-in-law, Shirley McKoy and Jacquliena McKoy and nephew, Douglas McKoy. Dorothy Ann was generous with her family and friends.  She will be cherished and missed by her devoted husband of 45 years, James Hightower; her two beloved children, Miquel McKoy and Jana Hightower; her adored granddaughters, Andrea Howard, Ryka Mckoy and Jaya McKoy; brothers, David McKoy, James McKoy, Reginald McKoy and Donald McKoy (Jan); sisters, Marylin Pearson (Rhuben) and Bernadette Bradley (David); sisters-in-law, Brenda Thomas, Mary Hightower, Angela Hightower, Terry Hightower, Eve Goshay, Eva Goshay, Susan Hightower, Hazel McKoy, Dizzanne Zimmerman and Angel McKoy; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
