Obituary

Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Myrtle Grove First Born Holiness Church.  Buial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Late August 16, 2024, Elder Doris Beatrice Lacewell McQuillan went home to be with her Heavenly Father.  She was surrounded by her family.  She was born in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late Beatrice Evans Lacewell and Alvin Lacewell on February 5, 1938.  Doris McQuillan was an ordained Elder of Myrtle Grove First Born Holiness Church.  Doris received her Bachelor's Degree in Theology on June 14, 1996.  Doris was a teacher foremost.  She began teaching Sunday School.  She taught an Evangelist class soon after receiving her degree. She held the position of Deaconess, North Carolina District Mother, North Carolina District Missionary and was the President of the Christian Women's Ministry, whose purpose was to further the spiritual education of women. She held several positions in the church such as a member of the Board of Trustees, Financial Secretary and was the first ordained female minister to serve on the Presbyterian Committee of the North-Northwestern Diocese.  Doris was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Luther McQuillan, a daughter,  Constance McQuillan Henderson, a grandson Aaron Henderson and a great granddaughter, Sonora Freeman.  Doris was predeceased by brothers, Alvin Lacewell, Jr. and Webster Lacewell, as well as sisters, Annie Bell Hillman and Arnetta Gavins.  Doris is survived by her daughters, Amanda Stephanie McQuillan Freeman, Lenora McQuillan, Jessica Golden (Fleming) and Jennifer McQuillan Jordan; her son/great grandson, Nijel Christopher Richburg;  her grandchildren, Sonya Phillips (Shane), Tamasha (Tammy) Darden, Nijel Freeman (Ginger), Weston McQuillan (Neena), Kieran McQuillan, Imani Sinkler, Nia Sinkler, Huldaya Sinkler, Jasmine McQuillan Best, Jade Jordan, Courtnay Buntyn, Aris Colea Henderson, Immanuel Henderson (Anisha) and Jonathan Henderson; 17 great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Lucille Walker; brother, David Lacewell, Sr. (Camilla); special adoptive daughter and son Elder Vanessa Bozeman and John Lee Bozeman; adoptive daughter, Zeborah Blanks and many others who called her Mom and loved her dearly; a host of nieces and nephews.
