Funeral Service will be 12:00 noon Friday, April 15, 2022 at the Willie L. Shaw Jr Memorial Chapel.  Burial will follow in Calvary Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5:30 pm Thursday at the Funeral Home.

Doris Ann James was born on July 13, 1959, in Wilmington, North Carolina to Geneva W. James and Henry Hargrove James.  Doris departed this life on April 7, 2022.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Geneva; her father, Henry; her brother, Henry, Jr. and her sister, Lytonall.  Doris attended the governor Morehead School of the Blind and was a graduate of North Carolina Central University and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she received her degree in Music and Arts.  She also worked as a temporary teacher to children who were blind or had become blind.  Doris and her youngest son Carlton, were members of the Williston Alumni Choir under the direction of Mrs. Odell.  Those who loved her, and will miss and cherish her include: four children, Demetrius (Mahonna), Stephanie and Carlton (Marquita) all of Wilmington, NC and Tara of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one niece she raised as her own child, Darnisha; two brothers, Darrell (Teressa) Williams of Winterville/Greenville, NC and John James of Wilmington, NC; two special friends, Jerry Mitchell of Wilmington, NC and Loretta Toney of Raleigh, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
