Desmond Lee Nixon Sr., affectionately known as "Debbie" or "Lee" was born on October 15, 1954, to the late James Roy Nixon, Sr. and Ernestine Nixon. He was the third oldest of seven children born from this union. Lee always had a deep love for cars, football, and music. He was a licensed mechanic and spent many years driving 18-wheeler trucks across the country. He was incredibly skilled with his hands—there was little he couldn't fix or build. Whether it was repairing a car, laying tiles, fixing a radio, or constructing a structure from the ground up, Lee could do it all. Among children, he was known for his playful spirit and his signature sense of humor. He never failed to tell a joke and always made a point to offer a compliment or a kind word to make every child feel special and loved. You could always count on him to lean in closely and say, "Y'all don't listen because one..." as he began a long-winded story, counting each point off with his fingers to drive it home. After moving to New York, Lee later married Olivia Nixon on February 3, 1983, from this union, two children were born: Tameka Sharon Nixon and Desmond Lee Nixon, Jr. These two joined his eldest son, Kwame Nixon, from a previous relationship. In his younger adult years, Saturdays were for cleaning up while spinning albums on his beloved record player—a ritual that brought joy to both him and those around him. He was well known for his famous Sunday morning breakfasts, a tradition he held dear as it reminded him of cherished childhood moments spent with family. After accepting the Lord as his personal Savior, Lee later became an ordained Deacon, faithfully assisting in the Ministry of Helps and Evangelism. He was also indeed the grandfather of all grandfathers—his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He poured love, laughter, and wisdom into each of them, and they were one of his greatest joys. He is survived by his loving wife, Olivia Nixon; his children: Kwame Nixon, Desmond Lee Nixon, Jr., and Tameka Sharon Nixon; his sisters: Brenda Nixon, Dorothy Nixon Marshall, Cheryl Nixon-Francis (husband Edrick Francis), and Cherry Sue McKoy; and his sisters-in-law: Rosanna Nixon, Albertha Stewart, Laverne Jones, and Cathy Cox. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Roy Nixon Sr. and Ernestine Nixon, and his brothers, Terry Lee Nixon and James Roy Nixon, Jr. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Daniel Nixon, Elizabeth Nixon-Chatfield, Brielle Nixon, Kalik Nixon, Mason Elijah Nixon, Italy Nixon, and Chozen Carmelo Jeremiah Nixon; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. He will be deeply missed, but we are comforted in knowing that he knew Jesus—and as the Word reminds us: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."— Revelation 21:4 And as it is written: To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
