Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at John H. Shaw's Son Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Dennis Ray Simpson, affectionately known as Bruno, was born to the late George Roosevelt, Sr. and Lillie Mae Simpson on September 10, 1961, in Wilmington, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on October 8, 2025, at Novant Health Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. Bruno was educated in the New Hanover County School System. In his early years, Bruno worked for Pioneer Roofing Company where he developed a strong work ethic and dedication to excellence, that would follow him throughout his life. Bruno later obtained his commercial driver's license (CDL) and became a long-distance truck driver. After coming off the road, he joined the staff at Indochine Restaurant. There, he performed numerous job duties with skill and dependability, earning the respect and admiration of his coworkers. Even after retirement, Bruno continued to work at Indochine, a place he truly enjoyed and considered a second home. He will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, kind heart, and the joy he brought to those around him. Bruno leaves behind cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Bruno leaves behind: his wife of eleven years, Celestine Mercy-Simpson; four stepdaughters, Kera Wiley, Monica Mercy, Shannon Wilson and Britni Mercy; one stepson, Jason Mercy; a loving mother-in-law, JoAnn Mercy; one brother-in-law, Terrance Neptune; two loving sisters, Darlene Smokes (Randy) and Dorothy Etienne (Nelson); three nieces, Monica Simpson, Chamika Smokes and Christyl Etienne; four nephews, Tyrone Simpson (Kiesha), Nelson Etienne, III, Eric Etienne and LaZerrik Smokes; a devoted second mother, Nikki Thompson; a special friend Johnny "Bubba" Pearsall; a dear cousin, Willie "Tiny" Taylor, and a host of other relatives and friends.
