Obituary

Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Calvary Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation is from 3:30 - 7:00 P.M on Saturday, May 28th at the funeral home.

Delores Hamlet , daughter of the late Helena McKoy and Empie Jackson was born February 10, 1944.  She departed this earthly life on May 21, 2022.  "Snowball" or "Toy" as she was affectionately called was educated in the New Hanover County Public School System, graduating from Williston Senior High School in the Class of 1962.  Delores furthered her education and became one of the first black Licensed Practical Nurses at Community Hospital in Wilmington. She was married to Jerome Hamlet in 1965.  He preceded her in death.  Delores never met a stranger and would talk to anyone.  She made everyone feel at home and tried to make sure that you excelled in life.  Delores saw the good in everybody.  She had an infectious smile that radiated up any room.  The energy that she possessed was felt by everyone.  She was a go-getter.  Always trying to make life better.  In 1981, "Toy" moved to Raleigh, North Carolina.  She was the owner of Geno's Boutique, Club Shirelle and the Soul Bowl Restaurant. In 2010, "Snowball" moved back to Wilmington, carrying on with her life that she lived to the fullest.  She will be greatly missed by all she loved and who loved her. In addition to her husband and parents, Delores was preceded in death by her grandsons, Julian Williams and Dymon Green; great-grand, Andrea McNeill and her cousin, Carolyn Nixon Deas. She leaves to cherish fond memories:  her children: Mickey Frost (Pamela), Rudolph Jackson, Shirelle McKoy (Mike), Jeronia Hamlet, Jerome Hamlet, III, JoMo Hamlet, Sedrick Evans  (Alisha), Gerald Murray (Latoya), Jessica Blackman (Keisha) and Helena Johnson; a granddaughter and great-grand son that she raised as her own, Shidelle McKoy and Nasir McKoy;  over 40 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; her siblings, Takeya Baker, Toye Baker, Ernestine Nelson, Rudolph Jackson and Marie Richardson; cousins raised as sisters and brothers, Ernestine Nixon (Tina), Willie Nixon, Leonard Peters, Preston Merrell, Tasha Merrell and Melva Merrell; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
