Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Shaw Funeral Home. Visitation is 12:30 P.M. on Saturday, prior to the service.
Mr. David Elijah Jennings, Sr., known as "DJ" was born February 13, 1949 in Spartanburg, SC tothe late John T. Jennings, Sr. and Daisy Y. Jennings.
DJ received his education in the New Hanover County school system.
DJ joined the United States Army on September 4, 1968, and was honorably discharged, April 9,
1970.
DJ worked various jobs before relocating to Hempstead, NY; while there, he began working with
the National Cash Register for a short period of time. Upon returning to North Carolina in 1982.
He became the owner of various TV Repair Shops in the city of Wilmington as well as the owner
of a consignment shop located in Delco, NC.
DJ found Christ and preached his initial sermon at Macedonia Fire Baptized Holiness Church in
Wilmington, NC. Shortly after, he became the Pastor of St. Matthews of the Phoenix community.
Other churches he pastored: New Testament Church of Wilmington, NC; Chapel of Peace in
Holly Ridge, NC; and Grace Tabernacle of Wilmington, NC.
DJ was a man who spoke words of wisdom and loved his family dearly. He spoke about being of
the world but not being in the world. His favorite saying was "Keep it in the middle of the road"
he was truly loved and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, JT Jennings, Jr., James H.
Jennings, Robert A. Jennings, and Richard Jennings.
He leaves to cherish fond memories: Daughters, LaTonya Williams (Tone), Charlotte, NC;
Charnette Jennings, Norfolk, VA; sons, Christopher Hall (Marcia), Wilmington, NC; David
Jennings, Jr. (Carissa), Burgaw, NC; Travis Collins (LaTina) Norfolk, VA; Tavell Hall (Rasheetah),
Navassa, NC; 16 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, siblings, Sherry Miller, Spartanburg, SC;
Patricia Brown, Castle Hayne, NC; Velma Jennings, Wilmington, NC; Cyrus Jennings,
Wilmington, NC; Michael Jennings (Alexia), Hillsboro, NC; Leverne Jennings, Stanley, NC; a
special cousin, Harold Jennings, and a host of other relatives and friends.
