David Arnold Herring, Sr, was the eighth child born to Frank David and Ozella Jeanette Baker Herring, on July 31, 1950, in Wilmington, North Carolina.  He departed this life on July 13, 2022, at Sibley Hospital Capital Caring Hospice Center.  He was the eighth of nine siblings to this union and had two sisters from his father's previous union. He received his secondary and high school education in Wilmington, attending Williston High School through the eleventh grade and completing his 12 th grade at John T. Hoggard High School, receiving his High School Diploma in 1968.  As a student, he was employed under the supervision of Mrs. Eileen Mack where he learned and became the head cook in the cafeteria at Williston High School.  He continued and shared this love for cooking throughout his adult life.  In addition to cooking, he loved his football.  (The Redskins now the Washington Commanders).  After graduating from high school, the following year, he moved to Washington, DC, and resided with his older siblings.  His work experiences in this area began in family business endeavors at both Thriftway and Hamilton Markets.  He also worked as a Valet for PMI Parking Enterprise for many years during the early years of his marriage.   Years later he become an entrepreneur and co-owned HNR Soul Shack that featured beautiful wall paintings, arts, and music, as well as comfort snacks.  He was also the Property Manager for the residential complex where he also resided for more than 20 years. In 1969, he met the love of this life, Serita Weathersby.  They were joined in Holy Matrimony the following year on June 20, 1970, the Reverend M. Cecil Mills of Canaan Baptist Church officiating.  To this union were three children, two daughters and one son.  After this union dissolved, much later in life, he met and was joined together with Tonya Parks in 1991.  To this union were five children, three daughters and two sons.  During this time, he was very involved in the community doing various acts of kindness for community residents and one community church, the Word Christian Church, also provided his children with lots of love and care as well as Christian Education.  The Reverend Andrella Graham spoke very highly of how she appreciated him for the acts of kindness he extended with lots of delicious baked goods and food.  He also supported some of their church fundraisers with baked goods. David was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ozella Herring, his first-born child. Deirdra, his eldest brother, Frank David Herring, III, and his two elder sisters, Mozelle Herring Anthony and Inez Short.  He is survived by his children, Lisa Weathersby Bell (Gerald) of D.C.; Deseree Lovette Herring, of Silver Spring, MD; David Arnold Herring, Jr. (Corliss) of D.C.; Tierra Parks of Greenbelt, MD; Brittanie Parks of Burtonsville, MD; Diamond Holman (Paris) of Silver Spring, MD; Kalil Herring, of D.C.; Arnold Herring of Spring Hope, North Carolina.  His siblings, Louis Gene Herring (Lucille) of D.C.; Edward T. Herring (Vivian) of Waldorf, MD; William A. Herring (Ruby) of D.C.; B. Jeanette Herring Burner of Waldorf, MD; Cleveland J. Herring (Gladys) of Wilmington, NC; MaeOlal Herring of Nanuet, NY; and Walter W. Herring of DC.  His grandchildren, Dhara and Tai Devane, Brittney Easley, Tiffany Bell, Devin, Dylante, Asia, Korea, Izaiah, and China Herring, Mekhi Parks, Jendaiya Grier, Pai'tience Jamie Holman, six nephews, ten nieces and a host of other relatives and very close family friends.
