Funeral service will be 12:30 on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at John H. Shaw's Son Funeral Home.  Visitation will be prior to the service at 12:00 Noon.

Curtis James affectionately known as "Curtis Blow", was born on October 20, 1953, to the late Alexander and Mamie James.  He was born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, and received his education through the New Hanover County School system.  He was proceeded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alexander "Frog" James, Ronnie "Dean" James and Jerome "Chop" James; and one sister Ann James. He leaves to cherish his loving memory; one son, Curtis Lee James, Jr. (Melinda); two daughters, Monica (Jerry) Hall and Luvena (Reginald) Adams; and eight grandchildren, Claude, Nicole (Brittney), Jadon, Kaayla, Kejuan, Camron, Jasmin, and Curtis (CJ).  He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Benford and Elder Janet James; two brothers, George Kelly and Elwood (Elizabeth) James; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Curtis was known to many and loved by all.  He had a joyful spirit and found happiness in dancing, singing, and making others laugh.  His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
