FACE COVERINGS ARE STILL REQUIRED TO ENTER THE FUNERAL HOME!!!!!!

Graveside service will be 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Calvary Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Clarence Brown, affectionately known as "Fatstuff' to his family and friends, peacefully transitioned from this life into eternity on Monday, October 23, 2023, at his home.  He was born in New Hanover County on June 25, 1942, to Ephriam Brown and Mary Emma Fuller Brown (Lacewell).  He was reared by William Lacewell, a devoted father.  He attended the public schools of New Hanover County, graduating from Williston Senior High School in 1961.  He was a member of the football team and enjoyed playing basketball and baseball.  He was a graduate of Bull City Barber College in Durham, North Carolina.  Clarence was employed for many years with North American Van Lines, traveling extensively with them to move furniture to several other states.  When asked about his spiritual life, he did not hesitate to tell you that he had accepted Jesus as his Savior.  Hours before his passing, he kept stretching his left hand toward heaven, as if desiring to be taken up.  With family around his bed, he quietly slipped away into eternity.  He was very kindhearted and considerate, always willing to give someone a ride, or help them in any way that he could.  He picked up food from the Food Bank and distributed it to people in the area who needed it.  He enjoyed sitting and talking with his brothers and with his sisters when they were in town.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Thomas Brown (Rev Bernice) and Garland Lacewell (Veronica); and one sister, Juanita Lacewell Moore.  He is survived by his significant other, Carrie Mae Corley, and her children, whom he accepted as his very own daughters;  Sheila R. Walker, Erica R. Smith (Venus), and Tiffany L. Jones (Mario); twelve grandchildren, and one great grandchild.  Clarence is also survived by two brothers, Ronald Lacewell, and William Lacewell (Carolyn); two sisters, Celeste Fullwood and Rheda L. Brown.  Fatstuff also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends, including a group of special buddies whom he gathered with almost daily.
