It is with profound joy that we announce the arrival into Heaven of our beloved mother, Chiquita Coston Martin, whose spirit peacefully transitioned from Earth on October 12, 2024. She was a beacon of love, grace, light and kindness, whose warmth touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know or experience her presence. Born on August 6, 1963, Chiquita Martin was the daughter of Annie Ward Coston and Carolle Edward Coston. From early on, she radiated compassion, always putting others before herself and bringing light wherever she went. Her gentle spirit, sense of humor, and unwavering support made her not only a cherished friend, but a source of love and comfort for all who knew her. As a mother, she was the heart of our family. She was our teacher, protector, role model, and our greatest source of inspiration. Her dedication as a Patient Care Tech in the Same Day Surgery Unit at New Hanover Regional Medical Center was evident in everything she did, always striving to make the world a better place. She was a woman of many titles, including a phlebotomist, a second mom to many children, and a pilar to the community. She attended EA. Laney High School and graduated from E. E. Smith High in 1981. Additionally, she studied at Winston-Salem State University and earned her bachelor's in education at North Carolina Wesleyan University in 2012. She was a former member of St. Stephen's A.M.E. Church, later joining membership at New Beginning Christian Church. Proceeded her in death, her mother: Annie Ward Coston, father: Carolle Edward Coston, and son: Charles Eugene Hines. Left to cherish precious memories: her children, Marquita and Monique Martin. Her grandchildren: Kaylee, Mason, Mejia, Carter, Camilliona, and Naziere, her sister, Elizabeth Wall and brother John Coston (Shirelle). She had a special bond with her nieces: Ebony, Cheyenne and Jessica, and nephews: John, Christian, Julian and Jamal. Also left to cherish memories are her aunts: Patricia Ward Lewis, Joanna Ward Fontanot; Uncle Roosevelt Ward. Jr. (Lolita), and grand aunt: Elizabeth Mack Upperman. There remains a host of cousins and friends who were very special to Chiquita, whom she loved equally but are too many to name.
