Obituary

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Price Cathedral AME Zion Church. Burial will follow in the St. Mary Church Cemetery, Winnabow, NC.  Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Charles Mishoe was born April 23, 1947, to the late James T. Mishoe and the late Dora F. Mishoe.  He departed this life on April 26, 2024, at Novant/New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Charles was educated in the New Hanover County School System.  Before his illness he was an active member of Price Cathedral AME Zion Church where he served on the Trustee Board and the Steward Board, was a member of the culinary staff, the Men of Zion, Male Chorus, a Home Missions Conference Worker and helped or served wherever he was needed.  "Baldy" as he was so fondly called by many family members and friends, was a longshoreman employed with ILA Local 1426 for many years before retiring.  He was also employed with the former J.H. Lea and Sons Seafood Company for many years before the name changed to Atlantic Seafood in Hampstead, North Carolina.  Charles was a longtime member of the Wilmington Sportsman Club.  He loved cooking for the family and all of the church functions, especially fish. In addition to his parents, Charles was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret M. Lofton; two brothers, Leon Johnson and Henr Mishoe, Sr; and two sisters-in-law, Doris Mishoe and Sarah B. Mishoe. He leaves to cherish fond memories:  his wife, JoAnn Mishoe; four children, Charles Pelham (Katrina), Michal Pelham (Sonya), Paul Pelham and George Mishoe (Hayley); fifteen grandchildren, Delylah, Adrianna, Desting, Romeo, Darius, ShaKayla, Clarence, Tytiana, Tylisha, Azarrah, Zephanial, Paul, Macaih, Ameila and George; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Harriet M. Thompson, Carrie M. Delaney and Linda M. Johnson; one brother, Lloyd "Red" Mishoe; sisters-in-law, Deborah Galloway (Ralph Jinwright) and Lily Palmore (Okey); four brothers-in-law, Isaac Galloway, Reginald Galloway (Rye), John Galloway (Theresa) and Samuel Galloway (Tonya); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
