A memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Shaw Funeral Home.
Charles D. Adams, Jr. was born at Magee Woman's hospital on October 28, 1948, to Charles Adams, Sr. and Mabel Holley Adams. He was the oldest of three children, including Paula Adams and Sheila Addison. Shelia preceded him in death. He attended Burgwin Elementary School and Gladstone Junior and Senior High School, where he was an outstanding football player. Charles was recruited by Pennsylvania State University as a running back and was granted a four-year scholarship. During his time at Penn State, his team won three national "Orange Bowl" Championships where he forged relationships with football greats, such as Lydell Mitchell, Doug McAuthor, Charlie Pittman and Franco Harris.
Charles worked as a guidance counselor at the Pittsburgh Job Corp Center for 24 years where he helped young adults find their footing and gain life skills. During his time at Job Corp, he met Kimberly Farris while playing tennis. They were married in 1991. To this union were born three children, a set of twin boys: Justin & Jason and a daughter, Jasmine. Jason preceded his father in death.
Charles went on to become an excellent tennis coach as part of the Highland Park Tennis Association where at least one of his students went on to win Tennis Tournaments throughout the Pittsburgh region.
Charles was known not only for his tennis abilities, but he was also an excellent cook. His wife says her favorite moments were spent with him in the kitchen preparing meals together. Charles was also an excellent dog trainer. His family would be remiss if we did not mention his friend "Bear", the rottweiler and his grand dog – Benny, the Italian mastiff, he loved them both dearly.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife, Kimberly Elaine Adams, his son Justin Charles Adams, his daughter, Jasmine Danielle Adams, his sister Paula Adams (Pittsburgh PA), and his sister-in-law, Sharon Alexander (West Palm Beach, FL.) and grand dog, Benny, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will always remember Charles as an honest, pragmatic and a gentle soul.
