Cedric Earl Cogdell, who we affectionately called Ced or Doc, was born November 15, 1953, to the late John Wesley and Gladys Lee Cogdell. Cedric was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to many. Cedric was a private and reserved man who fought many trials. He was content with little things and found joy in everyday moments. He was a very charming man with an enormous heart. His laughter would fill a room with cheers of love. During Cedric's illness he gave his life to the Lord. He was so happy to share the joy in knowing and accepting the Lord as his personal Savior. His testimony..."I'm not worried about a thing. I've made my peace with God, and when He is ready for me, I am ready"! Once receiving God as his Savior, he became an obedient servant. Cedric demonstrated love and loyalty to all who knew him. He was genuine and head strong and meant what he said, which gathered the hearts of those who surrounded him. He provided us with his presence and graced us with his love. He was a beloved soul whom we all got a moment to cherish. Cedric was a wonderful man who brought joy and warmth to everyone he met. His kindness, laughter and love will always be remembered. Especially his famous phrase when he is excited, "GOD BLESS AMERICA!" Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will forever live on in our hearts. We will cherish the memories we share and find comfort in knowing he is at peace. He leaves to cherish his memories; son, Cedric M. Batts (Shante); siblings, Eva Roland (Ronald) of Wilmington NC, Cheryl Cogdell of Raleigh NC, James Cogdell of Wilmington NC, and Denice Sterling of Charlotte NC: a special brother, Terry Brown of Wilmington NC; grandchildren, Ciera Scott (Ryan) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Shydasia Batts, NyAsia Batts, Xavier Batts, A'mir Batts, Zymir Batts, all of Wilmington NC; great-grands, Jah'Zelle, Jah'Zaye, Dakota and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
