Funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at First Baptist Missionary Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Carolyn Ruth Taylor DeBose was born June 1, 1944, in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late Calvin Taylor, Sr. and Viola Tomlin Taylor. Carolyn transitioned and received her crown of glory on September 3, 2025. Carolyn graduated from Williston High School in 1962 and attended Cape Fear Technical Institute. She worked at France Neckwear Inc. in Wilmington for 10 years before she went to work for General Electric. She retired from GE in March of 2010 after 30 years of service. After committing this life to Christ at the early age of 9, Carolyn devoted her life as a member of First Baptist Missionary Church for many years. "Mama DeBose" as she was affectionately known by the members of the Fellowship of the Remnant, where she served as a faithful and dedicated member for the past 8 years. There is no doubt that "Mama DeBose" is rejoicing and happy to reach her heavenly home. Carolyn enjoyed shopping, playing bingo, bid-whist, spades, puzzling, and traveling with her family and the United Senior Citizen Club of Wilmington. Carolyn was married to the late Edward DeBose, Sr., on October 20, 1962. They were blessed to experience a union of love, support and commitment for 49 years. She was preceded in death by her son Edward DeBose, Jr.; great-grand daughter, Salem Russell; one sister, Nora LaBoo; two brothers, Calvin Taylor, Jr., and Clarence Taylor. Carolyn leaves to honor and cherish her memory three loving daughters, Rose Marie Vann, Wanda Green, Glenda DeBose-Barnes (Gilbert), all of the city; Sara Drayton (Ernie) and Kimberly Troy, who she embraced as her own, of Raleigh, NC; six grandchildren, Richard McCloud, Jr. of the city, Thomas Barry Green, Il (Michelle), of Maryland, Melissa Green (Christian) of Virginia, Micheal DeBose (Tyron) of Charlotte, NC and Taylor Russell of the city; five beautiful great-grandchildren whom she loved and cherished: Taje Edward Taylor Russell, Thomas Barry Green Ill, McKenzie Green, Azreal Russell, and Margo Grace Ramos; Emil, Trey and Twana whom she loved; one sister; Annie Bell Pryor of the city; two sisters-in-law, Myra Franks (Ronald) of the city and Marion Taylor of Clayton, NC; a special cousin Patricia James of the city; Nina Stanley, Betty Kimbrough, Brenda Galloway, Tonya McCovery, Deashia Chadwick, Raymond Wood (Jeanette), Karole Williams, Chinita Manley and Valarie Troy she held close to her heart; and many devoted nieces, nephews, and countless other relatives and friends, special friends, Helena Berkley of the city, Sara Dudley, and Rosa Batts of the city.
