Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at New Beginning Christian Church;3120 Alex Trask Drive, Castle Hayne, NC 28429.  Burial will be 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Dukes Family Cemetery, Ahoskie, NC. Visitation is from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the funeral home.

Anita Cheryl Dukes was born on September 16, 1961, in Ahoskie, North Carolina to the late Howard Leon Dukes and Flora Felton Dukes.  She quietly departed this life on Friday, April 11, 2025. Anita received her education through the New Hanover County School System, graduating in 1979 from John T. Hoggard High School. Anita attended Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, North Carolina.  She graduated with an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. Anita was employed at the Sandwich Factory for many years.  After leaving there, she moved on to Walmart where she worked for 30 years until God called her home. "Nita", as she was called by family and friends was an avid reader of mystery novels.  She enjoyed watching Little League World Series Baseball and college softball.  She was also a Carolina Panther's fan. Anita leaves to cherish her memory: her loving son, Michael Durant of Wilmington, NC; a brother, Jerome Dukes of Wilmington, NC; aunts, Diane (Ervin) Dukes and Jennifer Daves both of Norfolk, VA, Peggy Felton of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Katie Felton of Suffolk, VA, and Marsha Williams of Harker Heights, TX; uncles, Dennis Dukes of Norfolk, VA, Oscar (Wilhelmina) Dukes of Chesapeake, VA, Burton (Janet) Dukes of Norfolk, VA, and James (Marion) Dukes, III of Harker Heights, TX; very special friends, Maggie Marietta and Boyd "Scooter" Parker, and a host of family and friends.
