Funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at New Life Pentecostal Bible Church, 1102 Brooklyn St
Navassa, NC 28451.  Burial will follow in Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, NC. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Angela Denise Scales, affectionally known as Angie, passed away on September 1, 2023, in Wilmington, NC at the age of 60.  She was born on March 4, 1963, in Wilmington, NC.  Angie was a dedicated individual who had a passion for helping the youth, earning her the title of being a mother figure to many.  Angie's devotion to her faith was an integral part of her life.  She gave her life to Christ at an early age and found solace and strength in her spirituality.  Angie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eugene Scales, her mother Alice, her father Timothy, and her brother Timothy Smith, Jr., Bernard, and Robert Lee Smith.  Angie's vibrant personality and zest for life were evident to all who knew her.  She cherished her family above all else, and her daughter Alicia was truly the light of her life.  Angie had a deep love for the simple pleasures in life.  She enjoyed playing pool, spades, and engaging in lively conversations with her siblings on their cherished "group call".  Angie artistic talent shone through in her passion for arts and crafts.  She has a knack for creating beautiful and memorable pieces, from baby showers to weddings, always ensuring perfection.  In addition to her daughter Alicia (Kenan) McCaleb, Angie is survived by her sisters; Evangelist Lenora Smith-Willis, Janice Jinwright, Linda (James) Smith-White, and Jaqueline Price, as well as her brothers; Louis (Shirley) Smith, William (Glendale) Smith, Darren (Brita) Smith, Dexter (Felecia) Smith, Jerry (Kimiyo) Smith, and Vincent Smith.  She also leaves behind a host of special nieces, nephews and cousins who were dear to her heart.  Throughout her career, Angie held various positions that allowed her to make a positive impact on the lives of others.  She was the YMCA Youth Case Manager Coordinator and was the first person hired to work with the WIA Youth Program in Wilmington, NC.  Additionally, she served as a Program Assistant for the US Army in Aberdeen, MD.  Angie's commitment to service extended to her work as a MSA with the VA Medical Healthcare Center, allowing her to complete 20 years of federal service.  Outside of work, Angie found joy in a variety of hobbies.  She loved crafting, traveling, and engaging in DIY projects.  Board games, card games, and billiards were also among her favorite pastimes.  Angie had an eye for fashion and enjoyed shopping, always on the lookout for a unique stylish piece.  Music brought her solace, and she could often be found listening to her favorite tunes.  Angie's warmth, creativity, and love for her family will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.  Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.
