Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the ILA Hall. Burial will follow in the Moore's Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.
Alton Eugene Moore, 79 years old transitioned to his heavenly home on Sunday, December 17, 2023. He was born On September 7, 1944 to the late Cornelius and Gertrude Moore of the Wrightsboro Community, Wilmington, North Carolina. He was the second of four children. Alton was educated in the New Hanover County Schools in Wilmington, North Carolina where he graduated from Williston Senior High School in 1962. He spent time in the Air Force where he received numerous awards. He later pursued his passion for entrepreneurship and became the owner of Moore Trucking and Leap of Faith Bus Lines with his wife, Katie. He was united in holy matrimony to Katie on July 8, 1981. Their union was characterized by love, devotion and fun as they traveled around the country creating countless memories. He was a loving husband and father. Al, as he was affectionately called, was a role model to many people, had a big heart and never met a stranger. He often shared stories of his vast experiences as well as his wealth of knowledge in a multitude of subjects. As he was an avid lover of classic cars and motorcycles, he was a former member of both the Old School Car Club and Port City Wheelers. Al is preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Gertrude Moore; two brothers, Cornelius Hill and James Moore, and one aunt, Louise Stevens. Surviving to cherish his memory are: his loving and devoted wife, Katie Moore of Wilmington, NC; two daughters, Alethea (Larry) Aikens of Glen Burnie, MD and AlTonya (Gerald) Anderson of Suwanee, GA; one son, Alton (Renee) Moore of Glen Burnie, MD; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; children he raised as his own, Joseph (Felecia) Sykes of Wesley Chapel, FL, Laneta (Don) Ricks of Thomasville, NC, Alfred (Torrie) Sykes of Wallace, NC, and Alfonza (Janet) Sykes of Durham, NC; sisters, Helen Pierce of Fayetteville, NC and Annette (Alsie) Cluff of Houston, TX; godchildren, Dahleesia (Matthew) Johnson, Elliott Bannerman Jr. and Massiah George; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends, including special friends, John Hewitt, Tony Heyer, William Moore, Billy Prentice, Jerould Richburg, Emerson Whitted, and Milton Worsley.
