Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 17, 2021, at Mt Ararat AME Church.  Burial will follow in the Newkirk Family Cemetery, Watha Community, Burgaw.  Visitation will be Monday at 5:30 p m at the funeral home.

Alexander Cleon Newkirk of 107 Tanglewood Drive, Jacksonville, North Carolina, residing at 1630 Barclay Pointe Blvd, Wilmington, North Carolina, departed this life on September 12, 2024, at the Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in ICU. He was born on February 9, 1997, in New Bern, NC to the late Ronnie C. Newkirk and Angela Evans-Newkirk of Jacksonville, North Carolina.  Alex was a loving and devoted friend to all.  Alex was a person that had many talents.  Alex was a performer, singer, and comedian.  He was recognized at Laney High School for his musical accolades.  He had a passion for the arts which he pursued at both Pitt Community College and Cape Fear Community College.  Alex attended Christian school until the 7th grade.  Alexander was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in October 2019 and fought until he was no longer able.  Alex took his rest surrounded by close family and friends.  He was proceeded in death by his father, Ronnie Newkirk; grandmother, Blanche Evans; aunts, Wanda Evans, Ethel Lee Newkirk, and Dollie Ann Newkirk and uncles, Reginald Newkirk and Kenneth Newkirk.  He leaves to cherish his memory: mom, Angela Evans-Newkirk of Jacksonville, NC; brother, Devin Graham (Betsy); sister, Ashley Evans of Jacksonville, NC; nephew, Devin Graham, Jr.; two nieces, Amina and Sir Graham of Leland, NC; partner, Haleigh Carson of Wilmington NC; aunts, Roberta Evans of Jacksonville, NC and Gloria Williams (Ronald) of Watha, NC; uncles, Tony Evans (Wanda) of Decatur, GA and Robert Evans (Debra) of Leland, NC; one special cousin, Michelle Evans (Peaches) of Wilmington, NC and four other special cousins; one special aunt Diane Frederick of Rockville, MD, other relatives and friends.
