Obituary

Graveside service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery, Riegelwood, NC.

On the evening of February 27, 2025, God, in his infinite called his beloved angel, Aleathia Stanley to her heavenly home.  While our hearts grieve at her passing, we find comfort in knowing that Heaven has gained another soul.  She peacefully departed this life at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington, NC.  Born on August 24, 1930, to the late James and Vandalia King.  Aleathia was one of eleven children. Affectionately known as 'Letha." she may have been small in stature, but she carried a quiet strength and a mighty presence.  She was a woman who knew her mind —what she wanted, what she didn't want, and she never hesitated to express it.  At a young age, Aleathia left home, first moving to South Carolina where she married her beloved husband, the late Willie L Stanley, a Montford Point Marine then settling in Trenton, New Jersey.  Together, they built a life in Trenton before returning home to Riegelwood, to spend their later years.  Early on, she became a devoted member of her home church Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Riegelwood, NC, where she continued to serve until her health declined.  While living in Trenton, Aleathia had a heart for children, often looking after those in the neighborhood, ensuring they felt loved and cared for. Though she had no children of her own, she embraced the role of a motherly figure, becoming a beloved aunt, sister. niece, friend, and confidant to many.  Her love extended even further as she nurtured and cared for her great-nieces and nephews, whom she affectionately called "her babies".   It brought her immense joy to help raise and look after Mikail, Josh, and Nene.  Aleathia's kindness, generosity, and unwavering love left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew her.  She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie L. Stanley, and all ten of her siblings.  She also mourned the passing of her special niece, and caretaker Annette D. Williams.  She leaves behind a host of other cherished nieces and nephews including those who helped to care for her during her final years, Vivian Daniels, and Betty Brown.  As well as many other beloved family members, friends, and loved ones who now mourn the loss of this extraordinary woman. Though Aleathia has taken her eternal rest, her spirit, love, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
